Setting the Stage for Success: 5 Tips for Designing the Perfect Green Room

As a seasoned video and event producers, we've seen our fair share of green rooms. The backstage area, where your talent waits to go in front of the camera or onstage, can make or break a performance. It's a space that needs to be calming and comfortable while keeping talent alert and ready to bring that "go live" energy. In this post, we'll share our top 5 tips for designing the perfect green room that will help your talent shine, and share a sneak peek behind the scenes at our client's favorite green room at VIVA.

  1. Make it Green (or Not): While green rooms are traditionally painted green, it's not required. We prefer color schemes that feel calming and casual. Consider adding plants to the space, which brings in natural green hues, cleans the air, and imbues the space with soothing energy.

  2. Comfort is Key: Make sure your talent has a comfortable place to sit and relax. A plush couch or armchairs are great options. Provide pillows and throw blankets for added coziness. If space allows, set up a small table with snacks and refreshments. Avoid anything too sugary or heavy that could make them feel sluggish.

  3. Keep it Quiet: Noise levels in the green room can be a major distraction for your talent. Make sure it's as quiet as possible by taking steps such as soundproofing, keeping doors and windows closed, and placing signs and/or people outside to keep noise levels down.

  4. Well-Lit: Make sure the space is well-lit, but avoid harsh, fluorescent lights. Opt for soft, diffused lighting to create a calming environment. Make sure talent has easy access to a restroom and there are enough mirrors for your talent to check their appearance before going on stage.

  5. Add Personal Touches: Finally, add personal touches that show your talent you care. You can do this by providing their favorite snacks or drinks, displaying photos of past performances, curating personalized reading material, or even a journal where they jot down their thoughts.
