Raising the Dead for Dying Light

Bringing the zombie apocalypse from the screen to the stage

For the launch of WBIE’s zombie apocalypse video game, Dying Light, the VIVA team started with a deep dive into the game’s story, beginning with the origin of the zombie “disease” a fast- moving pandemic outbreak at the World Games. VIVA took this inspiration (and the fact that 5,000 GameStop managers were assembling in a single ballroom for the launch) to recreate the zombie pandemic outbreak among the gathered guests.

What followed was an unforgettable experience that exceeded all expectations.

With a widescreen stadium as his backdrop, the Chairman of the World Games Committee opened the games. As the Chairman attempted to complete his remarks, within the seated GameStop managers, zombies appeared, menacing “guests” (actors) to screams all throughout the venue.

Dying Light characters were quick onto the scene with futuristic weapons our team recreated and sprang into action, pushing the zombies toward the main stage. In a tense and dramatic moment of theatricality, zombies were defeated on the main stage as the screen shown a set of choppers dropped into the stadium and incinerated the zombies with onscreen missiles and cold pyro all around.

VIVA designed the complete experience from concept and scripting, through choreography, talent direction, motion graphics, pyrotechnics, and full turnkey event production services.
