AMC THE KILLING: VIRTUAL DETECTIVE EXPERIENCE

Bringing The Killing Audience Directly into the Show

Viewers take on detective roles as they search crime scene for pivotal clues

AMC is the ultimate destination for premiere storytelling, known for some of the most celebrated original content in television and film history. As big fans of AMC properties (and fellow storytellers), VIVA was excited to partner with AMC on some of their best and biggest shows, similar to our partnership with The Walking Dead.

Another fan-favorite AMC show is The Killing – a moody, character-driven detective procedural that ran for four seasons. The Killing unfolds through the eyes of its lead detective, something VIVA wanted to replicate as an online second-screen experience to extend engagement.

Investigating Rosie's Room

VIVA designed an innovative, immersive experience that brought fans into the world of The Killing, putting them front and center as investigators. As a nonlinear interactive experience (that was updated after each episode), Rosie's Room went deeper than the linear television program could allow. Fan loyalty increased as the audience “played detective” in an interactive online environment.

Filmed on location sets of the hit series, Rose Larsen’s bedroom was the focal point, as fans searched through personal effects, Rosie's online social posts, vinyl collection, secret clues embedded in the environment, and her diary for clues to help solve her murder.

Become a Detective & Search for Clues

Outcome

  • Increased audience engagement by extending the linear weekly series with a 24/7 online interactive world that was constantly updating
  • Beyond the interactive second-screen approach, Rosie's Room gave fans the opportunity to be part of the show in a detective experience that was both immersive and cinematic.

"Taking a compelling show and extending the storytelling through a deep, strategic digital experience has always been at the heart of our work for AMC, especially Rosie’s Room."
